The Left Considers Me to be Un-American.

America, Congress, Democrats, Glenn Beck, Harry Reid, progressives

Well, the left has gone and done it again. There is proposed legislation to reform Wall Street but it is currently being stalled by the Republicans via the filibuster. They feel that it needs to be reworked before going to the floor for a vote. Harry Reid has taken it upon himself to call this filibuster un-American. When exactly did dissent stop being the highest form of patriotism?

Our Founding Fathers built this country on the foundations of faith, the walls and roof made up of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment is our right to free speech. The Founders expected the citizens of this country to question their government and to question it with boldness. That is just what we are doing today.

The left, however, wants to paint us as un-American, some even branding us as racist. Why? I am a racist because I question the policies of this president and his administration? Or is the reason because I am questioning a president who also happens to be black? In either case, the left couldn’t be further from the truth.

I question (with boldness) any president and Congress who wants to pass health care reform at all costs, without actually reading what the bill does. In this case, the bill will cause health care costs to increase more than if Congress did nothing. Oh yes…it will also provide Viagra to sex offenders.

How about that $787 billion stimulus package which, according to a majority of economists surveyed, has done nothing to stimulate the economy?

Can anyone say Cap and Trade? Please pray that one doesn’t pass. Oh, I said pray, didn’t I? I think the left is going to start making that a dirty word as well.

My fellow Americans, please question with boldness any administration that doesn’t do what you want them to do. They work for us, don’t they? It’s about time they started doing what we tell them to do. Please don’t let them take us back to the Woodrow Wilson era. That’s one era this country can’t afford to relive.

To those on the left, how’s that hope and change thing working out for you?

Tea Parties and Free Speech

constitution, first amendment, free speech, tea party

I’ve been registered to vote since the early 1980’s. I take pride in the fact that I looked up to Ronald Reagan and his conservative principles. I am, at heart, a conservative. My interest in politics waned over the years but, since this last election, I’ve become more interested in politics and where we are as a nation. I’ve also become more interested in the history of our country. As a country, we can’t know where we’re going unless we know where we’ve been.

Which brings me to the Constitution. This document is the foundation for the government that we have today. All laws have their basis in the Constitution. The form of government that was intended by the Founding Fathers can be found within this document. You really should read it because it is amazing.

How does all of this tie to the Tea Party movement? Look at the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. It reads as follows:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”

As a republic, we enjoy freedom of speech. Of course, you can’ t yell fire in a crowded movie theater but you can express your dissatisfaction with your government and its policies. This, as I have read, is the highest form of patritotism.

The Tea Party movement is a group of people doing just that: exercising their rights of free speech and assembly to express their dissatisfaction  They, along with many other Americans, are dissatisfied with the current state of our country and the direction it is headed.

What bothers me is when opponents to the Tea Party movement are trying to subdue them and, for lack of a better word (or phrase) want them to ‘shut up.’ While I agree with their right to express their feelings towards the Tea Party movement, I don’t agree with their methods. We have every right to speak and, God willing, we will be heard. We will not be silent observers as our country is dismantled from the inside and turned into something that I will no longer recognize.

Opponents of the Tea Party movement are more than welcome to express their opinions and engage us in honest open debate of the issue but don’t tell me to shut up. That is not part of the First Amendment.

A Wonderful Thing Happened on the Way to the Voting Booth.

new jersey

Yesterday was a momentous day in New Jersey.  Many school budgets were put to the voting booth test and 54% of them failed. The voters have taken a stand and told our local school boards that we are tired of the bloated budgets and bloated administrative staffs that are pervasive throughout the state. As an example, in Holmdel Township, Monmouth County, the Barbara Duncan makes a little over $203,000 a year. Believe it or not, folks, that’s more than the governor of the state. I am still scratching my head at the fact that the chief executive of New Jersey makes less money than a superintendent of a school district.

This is just one example of waste in the Garden State. We have the highest property taxes in the nation; unemployment in this state is on par with the national average; we have over $30 billion dollars in debt.

Governor Christie has taken steps to get the state budget back in line by cutting the funding to various state departments, education getting an 8% cut. The teachers, of course, are up in arms over this. Actually, I would read this as the New Jersey Education Association (the union) as brainwashing the teachers into thinking that it’s the governor’s fault that teachers and programs are being cut for the school year 2010-2011. The governor has no power to fire teachers or cut programs. The blame for this is placed squarely on the shoulders of the school boards and local unions. They decide how the money is distributed in their districts. Of course teachers are going to be cut; better the teachers than themselves or their cronies.

Yesterday, New Jersey took a stand. We are seeing the same sort of movement across the country in the form of the Tea Party movement. I’ve become more involved in politics since the last election; I plan on staying that way or becoming more involved. It’s time to take back our state and to take back our country.

More on this in future postings.

My First Blog Posting (almost)

Well, this is my first blog posting ever in my life. Okay, change that. This is my second posting. I started posting on a different website but then found this one and heard some really good things about it so here I am! I’m not even sure how these things work, to be honest. I will try to post as often as I can. I may post something personal (like the fact that I’m looking at the new 2010 Camaro and thinking ‘Man, would I look good in that!); I may post something political; I may post something completely off the wall. You never know what my grey matter will generate. I hope someone reads it other than me.

I will say that I just got a new mountain bike this weekend for my birthday. My wife and I went in half each for it because it’s kind of expensive. It’s a Cannondale F7. The thing has disc brakes! Who would think to put disc brakes on a bike?!

Okay, I’ll conclude this entry for today. I may add some other things such as pictures of Point Pleasant, NJ (that’s where I live) and a few assorted other things.

I hope you read, I hope you comment, I hope you laugh and I hope you cry.
