The first book of the Bible is Genesis. However, it was not the first book written. Historians believe the Book of Job was the first book written. It’s fitting, though, that Genesis is at the beginning of the Bible as it is a story about the beginning of our very existence.
If you don’t think the Bible is an amazing and wonderfully power book, then you don’t know what you’re missing.
The Bible is composed of sixty-six books by over forty different authors and yet each is woven together into an amazing and eternal message or hope and redemption; about the rise of man and his eventual fall and about the prophecy of a Savior to come who will redeem us of all of the sins we have committed.
God loved us before time began. He loved us in the beginning and loves us today. He made the Earth and all that is in it in six days. John Wesley’s commentary on Genesis states that the creation of the Earth took six days so “that He might set us an example of working six days and resting the seventh.” I think there was more to it than that.
God knows all, beginning to end. He knew he was going to create something that would be absolutely perfect, including man. He took six days to create it because he was enjoying the creation process itself. Even though He knew man would eventually fall, He wanted to savor the moment of his creation.
For me, Genesis is a story of us and of the Savior yet to come. He was there from the beginning. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 NKJV
He was there at the end as well: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” Revelation 22:13 NKJV
Jesus is there throughout the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments. He is our Savior and our King of Kings. It all started with Genesis and continues today.
If you don’t know Jesus, please ask him to come into your life. I did nearly three years ago. It’s been an amazing journey that will never end. All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart and acknowledge that you are a sinner. Ask for His forgiveness. With just those simple words, an amazing journey will begin.
More to come soon. God bless one and all!
